After a few years, something always draws me back to writing here. I love talking about books (from raving about them to ranting about them), but eventually, the people around me get tired of the plot recaps from books they’ll never have time to read. This blog is the perfect solution, but it always results in guilt when I can’t post that much or find myself in a reading slump.
A reading slump describes my situation right now: As a new college student, I have less time to read than ever. It doesn’t help that every book I find is dark and depressing or that the current trend has moved from cute, innocent romance to… whatever Fourth Wing is. Being a student also means that I have little access to hard copies of books and have to settle for a whole lot of Kindle time – which is fine and very convenient, but also just not as aesthetic as reading could be. I miss flipping the pages and looking at the maps at the beginning and doing everything I can to avoid pulling out a bookmark (I will admit that I dog-ear pages in library books, sorry).
My solution is this blog. I am putting it in writing, right here and right now, that I will read at least one book a week and post a review. Hopefully that commitment will force me to find good books – if you have any suggestions by the way, leave a comment (I say with as minimal readership as it gets).
I also want to add one more note: I have not been very open about it before (or shared any personal details in general) but I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus. I am committed above anything else to living my life for Him and want the media I consume to reflect that. With my reviews, I hope to guide other readers through intentional reading by including detailed content warnings. As I said above, one of the reasons for my reading slump is that it’s hard to find appropriate reading material at the level of complexity I need. My hope for this blog is that I can help other Christian “new adults” navigate that.
In conclusion, enjoy what I hope will be a review a week. Thanks for reading.
